Northern NSW’s Anglican Schools Cup

On Thursday 21st November, the 2024 Anglican Schools Cup (ASC) was once again proudly hosted by Bishop Druitt College. Under warm, sunny skies, the 3rd Annual ASC drew over 550 competitors from 7 Northern NSW Anglican Schools. This year, we welcomed The Armidale School to this annual event. It was fantastic to see Bishop Murray visit all 6 sports which ran simultaneously in venues across Coffs Harbour.

Thank you must go to the BDC staff who convened each event. Mr Atkins (Chess), Mr Andrews (Football), Mr Lang (Golf), Mrs Spagnolo (Netball), Mrs Dawson (Rugby 7’s in conjunction with NSW Rugby) and Mr Kitcher (Volleyball).

Larnie Mordue: A CATCH UP WITH the winner of NSW Youth Surf LifeSaver of the Year

Who nominated you?

I was nominated by a selective panel within my club, advancing to the branch level, where I competed against candidates from Minnie Waters to Nambucca. From there, it progressed to the state level, where I was up against representatives from 12 other branches, all through an interview process. I was honored to be awarded NSW Youth Lifesaver of the Year. As a NSW representative, I then competed against candidates from the seven other states. To be an Australian finalist is something that I never thought I would achieve, and I'm so grateful for everyone who believed in me and supported me.

What does the award recognise

The interview highlights the significant rescues I’ve been involved in, including the memorable experience of saving a 3-year-old child. It emphasises my dedication to giving back to the community through countless hours of volunteering as a beach patrol member, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all beachgoers. Additionally, I take great pride in age managing children at nippers, where I not only oversee their activities but also share valuable knowledge about beach safety and surf awareness. My goal is to help children understand the potential dangers of the beach while teaching them how to stay safe and look out for others. I aim to ensure they can enjoy the beach, have fun, and smile.

Seeing children overcome their fears and witnessing their confidence grow is worth more than any paycheck.

I love the quote 'being apart of a community is something special, but being a part of a community that helps the community is far more rewarding'
