CIS Football Cup

Both our girls & boys open football teams headed to Armidale to face off against Carinya Christian School in the first round of the CIS Football Cup.

Carinya are from Tamworth & were nice enough to meet us in Armidale to save on some travel time - a gesture that players, driver & coaches certainly appreciated.

The girls kicked off later than scheduled due to roadworks and were met by a determined Carinya outfit. An end-to-end game with neither team able to finish their chances.

A great one-on-one save by Maja Robson kept our girls in the match as time expired although eventually going down in a penalty shootout.

The boy's team started with the majority of possession however were unable to break the Carinya defense until Ollie Correy cut inside off the right-wing and blasted a shot into the top right corner from the edge of the box.

A reminder to our midfield that passing is often the quickest way to goal. The ball soon found its way to Ollie again who made a run down the right-wing and what will go down as either the cross or shot of the season as it sailed inside the far post. 2-0.

The boys played all-around better football in the second half and were able to add another with Tom O'Connor converting from the penalty spot.

A 3-0 win & the winner of Emmanuel Anglican or Lindisfarne awaits.

A big thanks to Mr Klipin & Mr Andrews for coaching in the lead-up and on the day.

OUTDOOR EDUCATION

Year 7 Camp report

Year 7 were extremely excited to finally have a camp experience after 2 years of camp cancellations. First off, we got up bright and early, packed our bags, and headed right off to The Great Aussie Bush Camp! We had to take a pit stop at Kew, where we saw a huge axe!

We all crowded onto the playground, enjoying our quick little pit stop. We had about an hour there until we had to get back on the boring bus and sit for another 3 whole hours!

Of course, we made the most of it by talking with our friends. Time went fast after that. We looked around and saw the thing we had been waiting for this whole 5 hours. Finally, we all saw the sign, “The Great Aussie Bushcamp next exit”. Everyone started screaming and clapping.

We had a very good time on the bus after our stop but the best time was getting off and the timing was great! Just in time for lunch. Individually we walked to the dining hall and grabbed our plates. In a jiffy we had…HAMBURGERS!!! They were the best thing I've had in a longggg time! Gourmet buns with well-cooked beef patties, fresh lettuce, carrot, tomato, and even beetroot. We settled down and ate our hamburgers, not a sound in the dining hall, all you could hear was people eating and enjoying their freshly cooked hamburgers.

After lunch, we ran straight to the boy’s campfire and were very excited to hear our tents and who were in them. I personally had the best tent, all my friends in my tutor were in there and we had such a great time. Then we had shower hour, which basically explains itself. You shower for an hour, well you yourself shower for about 5 minutes!!

Night crept up before we knew it and we enjoyed dinner. Then we had dessert! Ice cream, so good! We started a campfire over at the boy’s campfire and got told to get changed into worn-out clothes, long pants, and bug spray. We played a round of Commando!! Which is basically spotlight, well it's basically tag in the dark, but you have to find the prisoners and take them back to the start. After that, we all got told to go to bed, which we sort of did. We were all talking, laughing and telling scary stories. We had about 10 minutes to talk then a teacher would come around and say lights out. We were all basically zonked after the bus ride, but some were wide awake because they slept the whole way on the bus!

The rest of the camp involved the Giant Swing, Lost Island, Survivor, High Ropes Course, Leap of Faith, Vertical Challenge, and Dual Flying Fox.  As you can imagine it went by in a blur because we were always involved in challenging ourselves and pushing our limits.  We made new friends and built on current friendships.  It was a great start to our High School years and a camp we finally got to go on. It was the best! On behalf of all Year 7 students I would like to thank Mr Close, Mrs Dawson, Mr Doyle, Mr Reedy, Ms Phiilips, Mr Johnstone, Mr Linke,  Mrs Watson, Mrs Walker and Mrs Wainwright. A very special thank you to Mrs Hilton who organised the whole adventure.

Outside of BDC Sport Achievements

Congratulations

Max Clarke (9) is now U17 Victorian State Modern Pentathlon champion and Finn Clarke (6) U13 Champ. They now train for MPA National title at the end of April. They are very excited! Max fenced up for the first time and did really well against the big athletes!

Amber Hundle (8) attended the Little Athletics NSW, LANSW, regional carnival in Tamworth. Representing her local athletics club, Woolgoolga, in the under 13s girl category.

From the 6 events that she competed in, she achieved 4 personal bests. 1st in the 400m sprint, Long Jump and Triple Jump, 2nd in the Javelin, and 3rd in the 80m Hurdles and 200m Sprint.

This now sees her place in the top 24 in NSW in 4 events, and travel to Sydney to compete at the LANSW State carnival, held at Sydney Olympic Park on the weekend of March 26th and 27th.

Molly Williams (9) has recently been selected to represent NSW at the National U15 Girls Hockey Championships. Molly’s selection follows an intensive weekend of trials where athletes take part in fitness testing, technical skills and match play. Primarily an attacking mid-fielder, Molly plays for Beaches Hockey Club in the local Hockey Coffs Coast competition. The national championships will take place at the newly upgraded Newcastle Hockey Centre in April.

Ruby Ensbey (12), a member of the High Performance Program, had a very successful weekend at Surf Life Saving NSW County Championships competing for Sawtell Surf Lifesaving Club.

Ruby competed in 12 events across her U19 age group and also in Open Women’s in events including Ski Swim Board and Board Rescue and many team events winning 7 medals.

Ruby is looking forward to competing in the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships in April.
