Bishop Druitt College recently served as the venue for the Coffs Harbour Region Tournament of the New South Wales Junior Chess League’s Primary Schools Chess Tournament. The event brought together young chess enthusiasts from local primary schools to compete and showcase their strategic skills. With over 160 competitors from 14 schools, it was a brilliant day of competition. The BDC 2 team of Felix Friess, Sam Stewart, Lance Benson and Claude Taylor finished in first place, with Sterling Lewis claiming the prize of overall top scorer. Well done to all our chess players. Chess will be back bigger and better than ever in 2025.

A huge thank you to Mila New's parents from Coffs Garden World for donating all the plants for our beautiful, colourful Year 3 garden.

NSW Country Schools Chess Grand Final

The Bishop Druitt Chess Team recently showcased their skill and sportsmanship at the New South Wales Country Schools Chess Grand Final, finishing 4th among the state’s top teams. Representing our school were Yash Tyagi, James Quodling, Benjamin Caesar, and Lior Daley.

Yash Tyagi, playing on Board 1, led the team with an impressive performance against the toughest opponents in the tournament. Facing some of the best young chess players in NSW. Yash secured two wins and two draws, demonstrating exceptional strategy and composure. His leadership on the top board set the tone for the team’s strong showing.

Congratulations to Yash, James, Benjamin, and Lior for their fantastic achievement. The Bishop Druitt community is proud of your efforts and looks forward to your future successes!

BDC Christmas Carols
Confidence & Motivation

Building confidence and motivation in young people is essential for their overall wellbeing and is a key aspect of their development. These qualities can have a lasting impact on their success and happiness. Confidence helps children believe in their abilities and face challenges with a positive attitude, while motivation drives their desire to learn, explore, and achieve their goals.

Fostering these traits involves creating an environment that encourages children to take risks, learn from their mistakes, and celebrate their achievements. Confidence is built when children feel capable and valued, while motivation is fuelled by the belief that their efforts will lead to growth and success. By actively supporting both, we can help young people thrive in the academic, social, and personal areas of their life.

By offering positive reinforcement, setting realistic expectations, and celebrating their efforts, we can model a positive mindset that can go a long way in helping young people develop both confidence and motivation. Nurturing these qualities, will help them grow into self-assured individuals who believe in their ability to succeed, setting the foundation for a fulfilling future.

It’s Time to Celebrate

Dear BDC Families,

I am so very excited to share with you that Serendipity Learning has been voted ‘The Best Tutoring Service in Coffs Harbour’ 2024.

Thank you for your dedicated support of Serendipity Learning this year. It is a privilege and joy to partner with you in educating your children. I appreciate the positive feedback and for sharing your Serendipity experiences with your friends and family. Word of mouth is by far the best advertising for a small business like this.

I would like to thank all the amazing, experienced and dedicated staff, past and present, that have contributed to Serendipity’s success. We are a small team with big hearts for teaching our students and guiding them on their individual learning journeys. There is no doubt in my mind that Serendipity wouldn’t be where it is today without this exceptional team of teachers sharing my passion.

As we approach the end of 2024, we are also preparing to celebrate 10 Years of Serendipity Learning. What a journey the past decade has been! I am grateful for all the connections and relationships that we have with many local Coffs Coast families and businesses.

Both of these achievements are personally very meaningful for me and a heartfelt thanks goes to all who have contributed to Serendipity’s success these past 10 years.

I’d like to wish the BDC community a very happy and blessed Christmas. Have a relaxing Summer holiday with family and friends and we look forward to working with you in 2025.

Here’s to the next 10 years!

With gratitude,

Fi Barrow.
