Rataj "Taj" Abdullah's journey with Bishop Druitt College began in Kindergarten back in 2012, when she and her family immigrated from Libya along with other Eritrean families. Over the years, Taj has exemplified unwavering dedication to humanitarian causes, leaving an indelible mark on our community.

Early Inspirations and Activism

Taj's commitment to social justice first manifested in Year 7 when she penned her inaugural poem following the tragic events of the Christchurch mosque shootings in 2019. This profound experience ignited her passion for using poetry as a tool for advocacy and reflection.

Contributions and Achievements

Throughout her time at BDC, Taj has actively engaged in various initiatives that underscore her commitment to global citizenship:

  • Ration Challenge Participation (2022): Taj participated in the Ration Challenge, raising funds to provide essential food and healthcare for vulnerable communities.
  • Representative at Goodji Festival (2022): She represented BDC at the Anglican Schools’ Goodji Festival in Brisbane, focusing on service for the common good.

In 2024, Taj embarked on a unique international endeavor, joining two sailors in a performance titled "Activism at Sea: The Voyage of Arka Kinari." This powerful narrative combines video, narration, and music to document their experiences witnessing firsthand the impacts of climate change on communities around the world.

Taj's advocacy extends beyond the classroom through her involvement with "All One Under The Sun," a local youth arts program fostering resilience and combating racism. She has also been a vocal supporter of initiatives like the "School Strikes for Climate," recognizing the urgency of addressing climate anxiety among young people.

Looking ahead, Taj plans to pursue her passion for International Relations and Politics at university, aiming to continue advocating for positive global change.
