Thank you to Ms Sandra Smith’s World Options Music class for their performance evening on Wednesday 7th June. For some of these students, this was their first performance to an audience. It was a great evening and it allowed the students a chance to share their wonderful music making with their parents, friends and staff. This was a truly inspirational evening with performances across a range of instruments and some students performing their own compositions. Thank you to all of the students for their wonderful performances.

Boom Clash Rockstar
Congratulations to our Secondary Rock Band who performed at the Boom Clash Rockstar Band competition live semi-finals at The Hoey Moey on Saturday evening. The group were successful in making it to the semi-finals and performed against 5 other older bands. The students were treated like rock stars with VIP Backstage passes and free soft drinks. The band played the best they ever have and were supported by a number of BDC students, staff and parents.
The Crets (featuring Finn Reedy and Oli Caesar) and Blind Pretty (featuring Della Baldwin) also played.
Congratulations to The Jam Jar who won the semi-finals and will now proceed to the finals in Sydney. Aidan Freeman (son of Ms Kate Freeman) plays bass and vocals in this group. Well done and good luck in the finals.
Year 3 Strings Concert
Thank you to Ms Sandra Smith and the students in Year 3 who performed at the Semester 1 Year 3 strings concert on Wednesday. The students have been learning violin or cello for one semester and in that time, have made great progress. Students have the option of continuing to learn their violin or cello in Semester 2. More information will come out to parents regarding this.
Behind the Scenes Tour
Last Thursday, students from the World Options Music Courses and High Performance Program Music students attended a Behind the Scenes tour of The Glasshouse in Port Macquarie. For the majority of the students, this was the first time they had visited the centre. Students were shown all areas of the facility, including the back of house, lighting, storage, green rooms and dressing rooms. It was a valuable experience for our Performing Arts students, with many students now wanting to return to see a performance at the venue.
Vocal Lunchtime Concert
Thank you to Cathryn Burgess and her vocal students for their lunchtime concert on Friday. The students all performed beautifully and are gaining more confidence with their performance skills. The Vocal Ensemble presented 5 pieces to an audience in preparation for Foundation Day the following week. Thank you to Cathryn for all of her work with the Secondary Vocal Ensemble.
Term 2 Violin Ice Cream Party
Violin students who have learned from Sabine Element in Term 3 have worked extremely hard and earned themselves an ice cream party! Each time they practiced at home they received a scoop of ice cream to put on their practice chart, and for every 3 scoops they were allowed to pick a topping for their real ice cream at the end of term. Congratulations to Milan who practiced the most out of all of my students this term and received a whopping 10 toppings on top of his 3 HUGE scoops of ice cream. He couldn't finish it all but we all had a lot of fun. I'm very much looking forward to what we will get up to next term.
Friends of Performing Arts
The next Friends of Performing Arts meeting will be held on Wednesday 2nd August from 8am in M2. New members are most welcome to attend. Please contact Mrs Rachel Caesar at rcaesar@bdc.nsw.edu.au for more information.
Instrumental Lessons
Instrumental lessons will continue next term. If your child is discontinuing music tuition, please advise the tutor and Mrs Rachel Caesar before the end of term so tuition timetables for term 3 can be updated in the holidays.
Orchestra Camp
Our first Secondary Orchestra camp was held in the last week of term at the Coffs Coast Adventure Centre. Thank you to Ms Sandra Smith, Mrs Rachel Caesar and Mr Peter Morgan for the organisation of this event. It was a wonderful experience for our Orchestra students and we look forward to making this an annual event.
Thank you to all performing arts staff and students for their work this term. It has been a massive term with many events, performances and excursions. Wishing you all a well deserved break.
