Performing Arts Term 2 Week 3

Wednesday, 11 May 2022

Wow! What a fantastic start to the term for the Performing Arts faculty. So many amazing opportunities for our students across Dance, Drama and Music! In the first 3 weeks of term we have had the Dance Academy Launch, Mothers Day Breakfast, exchange with Clarence Valley Anglican School, Scholarship Auditions, assembly performances, Friends of Performing Arts meeting as well as normal tuition, classes, and ensemble rehearsals. It has been such a busy start to the term and I would like to thank all of our staff for making these events possible and the students for taking these opportunities.

Assembly

Thank you to Emily Hodges for her amazing dance item at Secondary Assembly. Such talent from one of our High Performance Performing Arts students. You can watch her performance below.

Mothers Day Breakfast

Thank you to all of the students who performed at the Mothers Day Breakfast last week. It’s not an easy task being at school before 7am to perform to a crowd of over 450 people and the students who performed did a wonderful job. Thank you to Imogen Daymond, Jess Joice, James Rothacker (12), Mahi Khobregade (10), Nyah Gaddes and Oliver Gruber Styles (9) for performing. You all sounded amazing!

Dance Academy Launch

Last week, our Dance Academy students had the amazing opportunity to work with choreographers from the Sydney Dance Company as part of the Dance Academy launch. It was a wonderful experience for our dance students to work with such amazing choreographers and they gained a lot from the workshops.

Teo Ross wrote a reflection on the experience.

CVAS

Last Friday, dance, drama and music students from Clarence Valley Anglican Grammar visited BDC and participated in a range of workshops with BDC students. Students also heard from guest presenter, Jade Naidu, who spoke about her life in Performing Arts, the different paths life can lead you and some of the keys to her success. The key message to students from Jade that resonated was “to be a good person. It doesn’t matter what your skill set is. Just be a nice person.” BDC is planning a return visit to CVAS later in the year.

This year, our percussion students have expanded their skills and with Pete Skelton (our percussion teacher) formed two percussion ensembles - one primary and one secondary. The students have been learning how to play a range of large percussion instruments including timpani, bass drum and our newly purchased marimba. They are all thoroughly enjoying the group. New students are definitely welcome to join.
