As this is the last newsletter for the term, I would like to thank all the Performing Arts students, staff and parents for a busy term. So many amazing opportunities for our students both within the school and the community - Mud Run, Easter Service, Ash Wednesday Service, Shoreline, CallBack, Music Through the Ages, Primary Music Camp, Dance Academy Auditions, guest choreographers, Sundowner, Barney Miller Classic, Grandparents Day, Easter Hat Parade, Music Information Evening not to mention our regular assemblies, clubs, academies, tuition, and ensembles.
Term 2 Lessons
Lessons are in full swing and most of our tutors are full with some students on waiting lists. Lessons for Term 2 automatically roll over from Term 1. If a student is not returning for lessons in Term 2, can you please advise Ms Rachel Caesar and the tutor prior to the end of the term?
Violin Lessons
I am very excited to announce that in Term 2 we will have a new Violin teacher join our instrumental team at BDC. Sabine Element will be teaching our violin students on a Friday and we are excited to welcome her to the college. Sabine is familiar with Bishop Druitt College as she played violin in the BDC Orchestra as a student and attended the Japan tour with the school in 2015. If you are interested in violin lessons with Sabine, please complete an online enrolment form.
Cello Lessons
Cello lessons will resume in Term 2. I am pleased to announce that Carmen Coser will be joining the BDC Music Tuition team as our cello teacher. Cello lessons will occur on Mondays and students will be notified of lesson times soon. If any student would like to begin cello lessons with Carmen, please complete an online enrolment form.
Primary Music Camp
It was wonderful to see the return of our Primary Music Camp this year. This is the first time since 2019 that we have been able to organise this event due to covid restrictions. The students involved in Primary Ensembles (Superstrings, Band and Choir) all had a wonderful two days at the Coffs Coast Adventure Centre refining their pieces for performance opportunities later in the year. A special thank you to Ms Rachel Caesar for her coordination of the event and music staff Ms Sandra Smith, Ms Rachel Crismale, Ms Truus Meulenbroeks, Mr Peter Morgan and Mr Josh Jeremy for their work with the students during the camp. This will be an annual event for our students.
Barney Miller Classic
Over the weekend, the Barney Miller Classic was held in Sawtell. At various points, there were performance opportunities, which some of our students took. Well done to The Crets, featuring Oliver Caesar of Year 12 and ex BDC student Finn Reedy, who performed on the Friday evening on the truck in the main street of Sawtell.
The BDC Jazz Band also performed on Sunday outside the Sawtell Surf Club. Well done to Riley Biggs (10), Digby Greenaway (10), Camble Scott (10), Isabella Dal Pozzo (10), Cooper Lane (10) and Ila Greenaway (8)
Friends of Performing Arts
A massive thank you to the parents who assisted in any way possible with the Mud Run. Whether it was donating items, baking goods, selling, serving, or cooking - we appreciate your help in raising funds for our faculty. We raised $8000 and this money has gone towards lights for the Theatre, Drama boxes, Dance costumes and a new drum kit for the Branson Centre.
The next meeting for FoPA will be Wednesday 5th April from 8am in M2. New parents are always welcome to attend.
Secondary Assembly
Thank you to our dancers and musicians who have performed at the Secondary Assemblies this term. It is so great that you can share your talents with the secondary school. If any students are interested in performing at Term 2 assemblies, please see Mrs Caesar to book a time.
Last week, the Secondary school was entertained with a beautiful dance from one of our High Performance Performing Arts students and Secondary Dance Academy students, Freya Eather (7). You can see her video here.
