Performing Arts News Term 1 Week 3

Thursday, 20 Feb 2025

Welcome back to all of our existing BDC Performing Arts families and also a warm welcome to any new families that have joined the college. All instrumental music lessons and ensembles have resumed with most timetables now finalised. Some tutors still have some availability so please contact Rachel Caesar or visit the college website if you have any enquiries.

For new Performing Arts parents, we also have a wonderful, active Friends of Performing Arts group. This group consists of a number of parents who love the Performing Arts and are willing to be involved in a range of fundraising and volunteer opportunities to support the students and staff in the faculty. The group usually meets once a term and is coordinated by Rachel Caesar. Please contact Rachel Caesar if you would like to be included in the mailing list for this group.

OnStage Drama / Entertainment Excursion

The year 11 and 12 entertainment and drama students recently travelled to Sydney with Katie Gudgeon and Amber Baldwin. The students were fortunate enough to attend the Australian premiere of Hadestown the musical at the Theatre Royal and participated in NIDA workshops and a tour. They also attended 2 programs of Onstage, where they viewed exemplary performances and projects from 2024 HSC. This was an amazing experience for all involved.

Bravissimo

On Tuesday 11 February Sandra Smith and Rebecca Day took senior music students to The Glasshouse in Port Macquarie to see Bravissimo. This is a showcase concert of excellence from HSC Performance across Music 1, Music 2 and Music Extension throughout the region from the 2024 cohort. It was wonderful to see BDC student, Jamie Nathan, as well as ex-students Joshua Walraven and Jaclym Wynne perform. The senior music students came back with lots of inspiration and ideas for their practical major works.

Sundowner

Thank you to all of the music students who performed at the Sundowner event on Wednesday 12 February. We appreciate you giving up your Wednesday evening to entertain our families.

Callback

Year 12 dance students had an incredible experience in Sydney recently. They attended workshops focusing on Core Appreciation (writing techniques), Core Performance, and Core Composition during the day. In the evening, they had the chance to see the Callback Performances which was an inspiring showcase of exceptional works from the 2024 HSC Dance examinations.

The following day, they visited the art gallery, gathering potential stimuli for their dance composition task. It was an enriching experience that fuelled their creativity and enhanced their exam preparation.

Thank you to Hannah Johnson for organising this wonderful opportunity for our HSC dance students.
