BDC year 5 student, Maddy Cowling is a young girl who demonstrates creativity, innovation and care for others.
A grade 5 student at Bishop Druitt College, Maddy used her initiative to transfer her hobby of making cards for special occasions into a significant fundraising program.
She seeks inspiration from the internet to produce personalised cards, made from a process of printing and scrapbooking. Each card takes Maddy an hour to produce.
Initially, family and friends were inspired by her work and this pushed Maddy to consider selling her cards to raise funds for a charity.
With some help from her mother, Maddy connected with Business Professional Women (BPW) Coffs Harbour and set herself a target of producing enough cards to reach $500 in sales.
She promoted her work at school, to friends and at other community events.
On Thursday, November 11, Maddy proudly handed over a cheque for $559.40.
The money will go directly towards supporting BPW Coffs Harbour's annual scholarship program, which supports two local women with financial needs to complete the final year of their tertiary studies.
