For libraries, the start of each school year involves a great deal of activity, organising and allocating several thousand textbooks to our secondary school students. There were a large number of new textbooks purchased to support new curricula that are being introduced this year. Mathematics, English, Health and Movement Science have received fresh new sets of texts so far - simultaneously a joy, and a great deal of work for library staff!

This term we’ve had the opportunity to support and celebrate local, and worldwide events in weeks 6 and 7 of this term. World Poetry Day on Friday March 21st, then Neurodiversity Week, and our Harmony Week celebration in week 7.

Displays of books we hold in our BDC collection were featured, as well as information to foster understanding and appreciation of these globally celebrated events.

Library and some teaching staff were fortunate to also have some training on offer this week from Serena Vickers, our representative from ClickView. This wonderful resource is a vast collection of online visual materials, widely used throughout the junior and senior schools to support teaching and learning. What a fantastic week it was!

Alex Battaglia, Kalani Wood, Matt Dawson (Year 8) and Kiva Solomon (Year 7) won Division 2 in the AEL High School Cup in Term 1 competition. It is the 4th time BDC has won a term title in the Australian wide competition! In the final the BDC Blazes defeated the Mentone Mavericks (from Mentone Grammar in Victoria) 4 games to 1 in a best of 7 game final. Watch the last game here!
