BDC year 12 student Heather Orme wins 2019 Coffs Harbour Showgirl title
Thursday, 23 May 2019
The showgirl competition is synonymous with the future female leaders in country towns with the aim of the competition to find a young woman to act as an ambassador for rural NSW and country shows. The winner is chosen based on a number of criteria including knowledge of general, rural and international issues as well as presentation, confidence, life goals, public speaking, community contribution as well as volunteering efforts.
All finalists participated in an information session which gave them public speaking tips, etiquette tips, farming information, and presentation tips. Participants then had the opportunity to showcase their new skills at an interview in front of a panel of judges including Mayor Denise Knight and showgirl sponsor Garry Innes from Good Price Pharmacy Warehouse Coffs Harbour.
Heather recently participated in a community service program in Cambodia, a program run by Bishop Druitt College, and that influenced Heather to strive to positively educate this generation to recycle, reduce, reuse and to also educate people about women’s refugees and the impacts of domestic violence.
Heather said she endeavours to be a positive role model for the younger generation and present and promote Coffs Harbour. Heather will support community events throughout the year and go on to the Zone 1 finals in Taree in February 2020.
