Dylan Young, a student at Bishop Druitt College in Coffs Harbour, has had his passion and talent recognised by Bravissimo, the 2019 showcase of the best HSC music students from the Mid North and Tablelands regions. Dylan has been invited to perform at the renowned Bravissimo concert, which is a concert that usually sells out each year and showcases the best HSC music students stretching from as far south as Wingham, Gloucester & Forster, west out to Armidale and Tamworth, and North through Kempsey up to Coffs Harbour.

“What’s great about the concert is it showcases the best HSC music performances from the region from 2018, so the performances really are by the best music students in our area. It is also a great concert for students in Year 11 and 12 to see and gain inspiration for their HSC music performances.” Rebecca Day, Head of Music at Bishop Druitt College.

Dylan completed Music 1 for his HSC in 2018 and majored in performance on guitar and voice. This invitation is a fantastic reward for Dylan, as it proves recognition of his hard work and dedication towards music in his HSC year. He was awarded 97 in the HSC for music and was nominated for performance at Encore – the NESA music showcase of the best HSC performances from around the state.

“I believe every performance opportunity is important to grasp and Bravissimo is no different. Practise makes perfect, so this concert will greatly contribute to my experience as a performer and musician. It’s my opportunity to connect with future HSC music students. I hope to provide a figure that gives good advice and inspires them to challenge themselves in the music course, particularly in the performance core.”

“When playing and performing I tend to lean towards acoustic songs, they seem to be my niche. This is because acoustic pieces revolve around the skill of the performer and what they want to convey. All notes, dynamics and expressive techniques reflect this, this is the primary reason why I enjoy this style of music. I also feel like this form of music expresses all elements of both the guitar and voice in their rawest form – the sounds they produce aren’t manipulated in any way which brings out the specific tone of my voice and guitar alike.”

The pieces performed come from a range of different genres including rock, heavy rock and jazz using a range of different instruments including voice, drums, clarinet, guitars, piano and saxophone.
