Chaplain's Chat Term 1 Week 3

Wednesday, 15 Feb 2023
Jesus said, When you do good deeds, don't try to show off…  When you give to the poor, don't let anyone know about it. Then your gift will be given in secret. Your Father knows what is done in secret and will reward you.
— Matthew 6:1a,3-4

All are welcome. Come as you are.

A new year begins, and we are exploring service and inclusivity in our chapels this term. Our school families gather from many varied traditions and faiths and as we participate in the rituals of our Anglican tradition, we remember that don’t need to be any other than who are. Next week we will share the joy of eating pancakes, following the tradition of Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day) which prepares us to enter into Lent. We also remember that when we eat an indulgent food like pancakes it is good to eat mindfully, with gratitude for the food we have and remembering the times that many go without their daily bread. Lent begins with our Ash Wednesday service when students will be invited to take the ashes in the sign of the cross upon their hand or forehead as a sign of solidarity with those who suffer and our own role and responsibility in impacting the environment and humans around us. We cross the threshold into Lent and contemplate how we can change ourselves and our world.

Anglicans in Development (part of the Anglican Board of Mission) has launched an appeal for victims of the recent earthquakes in Türkiye and Northern Syria. This appeal will be used by the Action by Churches Together (ACT) Alliance, whose members are currently on the ground providing emergency relief. More information is here: https://www.abmission.org/appeals/emergency-appeals/turkiye-syria/

We welcome gold coin donations on Shrove Tuesday towards this appeal.

The Primate of the Anglican Church of Australia and Archbishop of Adelaide, The Most Reverend Geoffrey Smith, has recorded a message for staff and students at Anglican schools as they return for the start of the 2023 school year.

Primary Chapel services for K-6 take place fortnightly in the last period on Thursdays (Day 9 in the timetable) in the Branson Centre. This alternates with Primary Assembly. Parents are very welcome to join our Chapel.

Special Dates this term:

  • Tuesday 21st February Pancake Tuesday (Shrove Tuesday)
