UNSW Rural Clinical School Faculty of Medicine

In Week 1 students interested in pursuing medicine were invited to attend the UNSW Rural Clinical School Faculty of Medicine Open Day here in Coffs Harbour. Students were able to meet and connect with faculty staff and current medical students as well as participate in activities to get a sense of what studying medicine at UNSW would be like.

This was such a valuable and informative session which included information on pathways and admission requirements into UNSW to study medicine. We thank the UNSW Rural Clinical School Faculty for organising and hosting this event.

TAFE NSW Yes Program

This week is National Careers Week and what a better way to kick off the week than with the TAFE NSW Yes Program. This program is a youth engagement strategy program and aims to give students a glimpse of what studying different TAFE courses would be like. Students will attend their program of choice one day per week for the next six weeks participating in theory and practical lessons. We have ten students attending programs ranging from Auslan, electrical, construction, sports fitness and metal fabrication and welding which will assist our students with subject and course selections for Years 11 and 12.

Coffs Coast Career Connections Year 10 Career Expo

This week we took Year 10 students to the racecourse to attend the inaugural Coffs Coast Career Connections Year 10 Career Expo. This event will see over 70 vendors ranging from local businesses, universities, TAFE NSW, and trade associations attending and our students will have the opportunity to meet and greet with. This will be an invaluable experience for our Year 10 students as it will broaden their horizons as to what is available and what their career pathway could be, as well as thinking about their study options after Year 10.

Sydney and Newcastle Universities Excursion

Next week we will take eighteen Year 11 BDC students on the Sydney and Newcastle Universities excursion. We will visit with a total of 100 students across 10 different local high schools. This is a jam-packed three days where students will visit the University of Newcastle, Macquarie University, University of Sydney, and the University of New South Wales. Each university has put together an incredible program and students will be able to tour each university campus, attend faculty sessions and activities as well as hear about current student experiences.
