National Careers Week STEM Activities
Last week we celebrated National Careers Week by showcasing a range of STEM career activities throughout the campus for K-12 students.
I had a great session with Year 6, who enjoyed a lively STEM Careers Bingo game and at recess and tutor time, all students were invited to head down to the BBQ area to take part in the different activities taking place each day. We even had a special visit from an ACS Technology Educator, who bought Cubit Robotics kits into a number of classes to conduct workshops with students. From Archaeology to Agriculture to marine science and occupational therapy - students enjoyed hands-on activities from our guest presenters.
School Based Traineeship Opportunity
OSMAC Apprenticeships, in partnership with Opal Healthcare, is seeking applications from current year 11 students interested in commencing their nursing and healthcare careers at school. There are multiple AIN traineeship positions available in Coffs Harbour. Successful students will be enrolled in the Certificate III in Individual Support with TAFE, complete 375 hours of paid clinical placement (about $4,700) with OSMAC, hosted by Opal Healthcare whilst receiving mentoring and support from OSMAC’s experienced Care Managers.
This traineeship will provide students the opportunity to be job-ready and Certificate III qualified upon completion with Opal Healthcare committing to employ graduates directly after completion as part of their casual AIN workforce. The traineeship also contributes toward students’ HSC with many of our recent trainees gaining rank entry into Bachelor of Nursing at selected universities, whilst the EN (Diploma of Nursing) pathway is still an excellent option for those students who are not ATAR eligible or want to complete Enrolled Nursing prior to going to university.
Successful students will commence their traineeship in the upcoming June/July holidays and are expected to complete in term two of 2023, with students being offered casual employment as AINs with Opal Healthcare to financially support them through the rest of their school year and on to Enrolled Nursing (EN) and/or Registered Nursing (RN) studies post school. Opal also has a Graduate Program for ENs and RNs. This is a ‘Grow Your Own’ Health Workforce model aimed at engaging, training and growing the next generation of healthcare workers for the Health and Community Services Sector.
Applications close Friday 10th June.
If you are interested in applying for this opportunity, please email Mrs Driscoll asap.
Year 10 Career Development Days Coming up
In Week 1 Term 3, we are delivering to Year 10 the Career Development Days. This is a compulsory 2-day event on campus, which will assist Year 10 to explore their career options, learn about the requirements of the HSC, work experience, VET and university options and senior subject selection. There will also be a range of guest speakers presenting to students about their own career journeys.
Year 12 Early Offers to University
Congratulations to our proactive Year 12 students who have already received offers for study next year! Many students have applied via the Charles Sturt Advantage Early offer or direct to the universities or colleges of their choice, leaving them free to concentrate on their HSC study.
