Bishop Druitt College opens up many exciting opportunities for students and the latest is the Head-Start program through Southern Cross University.
Four BDC students have been successful in gaining entry to the Head-Start program in 2019.
What’s exciting about Head-Start is that a high school student undertakes one unit of university study – either Biology or Communications – at Southern Cross University’s Coffs Harbour campus one afternoon a week for 16 weeks. Successful completion of that one unit means the student gains direct entry and advanced standing into a variety of courses of their choice (except Education) at any SCU campus in Lismore, Gold Coast or Coffs Harbour.
This means our four BDC students are guaranteed an offer of a place in any SCU course regardless of their ATAR. They can go into their HSC feeling less pressure than if this program didn’t exist. Head-Start is in its second year at BDC and is getting a lot of interest.
‘Bishop Druitt College would like to congratulate Tess Parker-Reynolds, Bailie Kapukaya, Lucia Verguizas and Gurjot Nahal, who all successfully completed the Southern Cross University Head-Start course this year. All of these students now have a confirmed place in an SCU Bachelor degree of their choice at either Coffs Harbour, Gold Coast or Lismore campus. What a great feeling, to have that confirmed even before the HSC,’ said Gina Driscoll, Career Pathways Coach at Bishop Druitt College.
Applications for the Head-Start 2020 program are now open to current Year 10 and Year 11 students. For more information and to register, go to www.scu.edu.au/headstart Applications close 12 October 2019.
