Best of Both Worlds: BDC's Innovative Approach to Education - BDC Horizon Online School
Tuesday, 17 Dec 2024
In an era where flexibility and personalisation are becoming increasingly important in education, Bishop Druitt College proudly announces an exciting new chapter in our educational journey. In 2025, we will launch BDC Horizon Online, offering a groundbreaking blended learning approach that combines traditional classroom experiences with innovative online education.
This initiative, a testament to our commitment to meeting the diverse needs of today's students, empowers them with choice and control. The blended learning model allows students to maintain the social connections and face-to-face support that are hallmarks of high quality schooling while benefiting from the flexibility and independence that online learning provides.
Starting with Year 11 in 2025, students can study Italian Beginners in a blended format alongside fully online options in Engineering, Agriculture, and Health and Movement Science. This carefully selected range of subjects opens new possibilities for students who may have previously faced scheduling conflicts or needed more flexible learning arrangements.
"Our blended learning approach isn't just about convenience – it's about preparing students for the future," explains Craig Verbruggen, Head of BDC Horizon Online. "In today's world, learning independently, managing time effectively, and engaging with digital platforms are essential skills. Our program helps develop these capabilities while maintaining the supportive environment our students value."
The benefits of this innovative approach are significant. For our high-performing athletes and performers, blended learning offers the flexibility to balance their training, travel and performance schedules with their academic commitments. For students who learn better at their own pace, it provides the opportunity to review materials as often as needed. The program also supports students who may be temporarily unable to attend school due to illness or family circumstances.
What sets BDC's approach apart is our unwavering commitment to maintaining strong student support systems. While some components are delivered online, students still have regular access to teachers, counsellors, and peer support networks. The blended model ensures that no student feels isolated in their learning journey. The college prides itself on supporting student connection, purpose, and balance, providing a reassuring safety net for all students.
This initiative represents more than just a new way of delivering education – it's about creating pathways that work for every student. Whether it's a talented athlete needing flexible scheduling, a performing arts student passionate about maintaining their tertiary pathway, or someone excited to learn the skills of blended or online learning knowing that most universities and workplaces deliver professional development or learning modules online. This strategy is really about being future-focused.
As we prepare for this exciting launch in 2025, we invite our community to embrace this educational evolution. After all, the future of learning isn't about choosing between traditional and online education – it's about choice and flexibility.
