Handing on the Baton

After 30 years Scott Rodham is handing over the reins for the role as Archivist and Alumni Officer to Barb Kiemski who has been at BDC for 25 years. As an historian, she is the perfect person to take over this role as she now enters her 26th year as a member of the college staff.

As the school expands, so do both roles. Records show that there are over 752 staff who have worked in different positions in the 31 years and 6461 students who have walked under the entrance arch.

Bishop Druitt College is the only Anglican school out of five on the North Coast to have offered the position of Archivist and Alumni Officer.

Roxanne Hickman

Roxanne Hickman is a Project Engineer working on the Coffs Harbour bypass project, specifically in the northern section between Sapphire Beach and the Korora Hill Interchange.

Her family moved from Sydney to Coffs Harbour in 2005 where she attended Bishop Druitt College, gaining the Higher School Certificate in 2010, being recognised on the Distinguished Achievers’ List by the Education Standards Authority

Roxanne began her tertiary studies at the University of New England completing a Bachelor of Commerce. She then pursued a Bachelor of Construction Management at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), complementing her academic qualifications with certifications in various professional areas, including project risk management in construction.

Roxanne's early career included roles as a business banking specialist and finance administrator. She later transitioned into the construction sector, combining her expertise with teaching as an academic tutor at UNSW while gaining practical experience as an assistant quantity surveyor..

In 2020, her engineering career started on a major tunnelling project - Sydney’s WestConnex – where she worked on the Rozelle Interchange. This was a springboard for her appointment as Field Engineer in North Texas. For the next 18 months she was a Project Engineer, employed in Dallas, Texas by Webber, a leader in construction and infrastructure.

Building on this experience, Roxanne was recruited as Project Engineer for Ferrovial Construction to oversee the design and construction of the Coffs Harbour Bypass Project. This involved working with specialised subcontractors and the construction team on all facets of civil construction, including vegetation removal, earthworks, drainage, pavement, revegetation and finishing works – all while keeping traffic on the existing highway moving with minimal disruptions.

In late 2022, she was honoured as a finalist for the 2023 National Association of Women in Construction Awards and was also nominated for the Acoustic Logic Regional Woman of the Year.

In her free time, Roxanne trains as a member of the Coffs Coast Outrigger Canoe Club at Jetty Beach, reflecting her dedication to both her team spirit and personal passions.
