Robert Linton, a distinguished alumnus of Bishop Druitt College, has made remarkable strides in the world of basketball since he first walked through our doors in 2000. Enrolled in Year 4, Robert quickly developed a passion for the sport that would shape his future. By 2003, his talent was recognised when he was selected for the NSW Talented Athlete Program for Basketball. He played a key role in assisting with the Oceana Youth Basketball visit in 2004.
After completing his School Certificate at BDC in 2006, Robert pursued further opportunities at The Scots College in Sydney, where he benefitted from training under top-tier coaches at both GPS and metro-representative levels. This exposure paved the way for a college scholarship offer in Canada, marking the beginning of an international basketball journey.
In 2012, Robert celebrated a career highlight by winning the NSW State League Championship with Coffs Harbour Basketball. His impressive career continued to flourish, and in 2019, he proudly represented Australia at the FIBA 3X3 tournament in China.
Today, Robert channels his expertise into North Coast Basketball, a professional coaching service he founded, based in Coffs Harbour. North Coast Basketball operates from Port Macquarie (NSW) through to the Gold Coast (QLD), with the mission to provide young athletes in rural areas with valuable basketball training and alternative pathways to progress in the sport. The program currently extends to training centres and camps in the Gold Coast, Lismore, Ballina, and Coffs Harbour, with plans to expand further along the mid and north coast.
In addition to his coaching endeavours, Coach Linton has been assigned to the BDC Basketball Academy, where he shares his extensive knowledge and skills with the next generation of players. His dedication and leadership were recognised at the 2023 Sports Dinner Awards, where he was honoured with the Staff Coaching Spirit Award for Manager of the Year.
