100 Days of Kindergarten
On Tuesday Kindergarten had such a great time celebrating 100 days of learning, new friendships, new experiences and being a part of our BDC community. We celebrated with cupcakes, and group activities and had an afternoon dancing in the sunshine. The students were so proud of themselves and even had a visit from Granny Fisher, Nana Johnson and Grandma Nightingale.
Go Blue Day
On the first Friday back for Term 3, BDC held a successful fundraiser in support of Go Blue Day, an initiative to raise awareness and funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
The event brought together students, staff, and the community in a united effort to combat Type 1 diabetes. Through our very creative blue themed casual dress day, we managed to raise an impressive $927.55. This amount will go directly to JDRF, aiding their research and support for those affected by the condition.
We are proud to have contributed to such an important cause and look forward to continuing our support for JDRF and other vital initiatives in the future. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this event a success!
A very special thanks to both Frankie Davies (3R) and Ethan Keam (6F) who drove this initiative. Both Frankie and Ethan spoke from the heart to both our Primary and Secondary students and staff last week to highlight the importance of this great event. A special thanks to our college nurses, Alice and Paris for their kind support. We hope this will be a long-lasting initiative we can support long into the future.
Year 1 Adventure Day
With Year 1 it’s always a barrel of laughs!!
The Year 1 Adventure Day at Moonee Beach was a whirlwind of excitement and discovery for the Year 1 students. The day began with a picturesque morning tea overlooking the estuary. Students then divided into classes and began the thrill of Marble Racing, where the children cheered marbles down their sand track.
They also discovered the local environment on the Bush Walking adventure, where the kids explored the coastal surroundings, learning about local flora and fauna.
The third activity was a Blind Trail challenge that offered a unique twist, encouraging teamwork and trust as they navigated a path blindfolded with the help of their peers.
The final activity, an Animal Hunt, brought joy and curiosity as the children searched for hidden animals. Overall, the day was a perfect blend of play, learning, and exploration, leaving everyone with cherished memories and a newfound appreciation for nature.
A big thank you to the teachers for facilitating the activities and the BDC Peer support for their service for the day.
iHub Matters
The first weeks of Term 3 have seen a great deal of activity in our wonderful iHub space: hosting the Ethics Olympiad team in our Cottee Room; running Year 10 Taster sessions for students eager to hear about library resources and study tips that should help them on a path to academic success; starting research sessions off with Year 11 Legal Studies having an in-depth ‘dive’ into Human Rights topics and materials they can access online; a Careers visit from Newcastle University that was held in our O’Shane Room; Information Evening tours - and a lot of keen students studying for the HSC Trials exams that commence in Week 3! What a fantastic learning space this is - with so much versatility, and activity to support a huge range of our students' educational interests and needs!
We also welcome a friendly new face to the library team: Michaela Andrews, who will undertake part-time work in the Primary Library, and be a valuable assistant for the seniors during Mr Walker’s leave.
